One of the jewels in the crown of County Limerick, in the heart of Munster, is the ancient site of Lough Gur.
Boasting an impressive wedge tomb, and a beautiful lake together with some modern facilities including a visitor centre, there is plenty to do and see there.
Near the wedge tomb is Carraig Aille, an incredible and picturesque spot with impressive panoramic views over the whole area, and not too far from either, is the largest stone circle in Europe and Ireland, known as Grange.
During our Bealtaine Pilgrimage, Ancient Spiritual Tours facilitators Carl J. Ashley and Dee O’Connor will welcome you to the site where we will be met by Brian Collopy, who will be our tour guide for the day.
Brian cuts a fascinating and passionate figure, and recently joined us online for a chat about the site and its connection with the Goddess Aine, feel free to join us on our recent podcast with Brian, to get a feel for what magic you can expect at the Lough Gur site.
Unmistakeably one of the most scenic and profound sites, in all of Munster and Ireland, many theories abound about who created the stone circle, when, and what for.
Straddling the divide between mythology, the wisdom of the faerie folk, the elementals, and modern science and mainstream archaeology, Brian has an intriguing insight which makes him the perfect custodian and caretaker for this liminal and magical location.
